June 2013

DSCN5291

Cora is officially walking, since the second week of June. We are thrilled!

Cora has also discovered her belly button, and loves to lift up her shirt and point to it and get tickled when prompted Smile

She has started to make a pucker face, which Ryan lovingly calls a ‘duck face’

Cora’s favorite foods are cereal and pasta and juice (and fruit snacks when she sneaks one from her brother).

Cora has now gotten old enough that she and Hyrum have small tiffs. She has now learned to hit and yell from him, and will mimic him when he does either to her. Sigh.

Cora now has a word for Hyrum- “Em-Em” and she looks for him right when she wakes up! We also got a new car seat for Hyrum, and Cora moved into Hyrum’s old one. They loved sitting in them indoors while we made the transition:

Both kiddos ‘helped’ me make one of Daddy’s cheesecakes for his birthday:

Hyrum and Cora went to both of their first movies in the theater! We are doing the summer movie series for kids and they are both doing pretty well, though Hyrum will hide his face a lot and say “I don’t like this one!”

Ryan had his birthday! Wahoo! We celebrated with a special breakfast (homemade muffins and donuts from Le Caves), a date to Star Trek, and a cheesecake party later that week. This year I made chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake (as always), crème brulee cheesecake, and cake batter cheesecake. They were awesome!

For Ryan’s birthday he got hand weights and a computer bag that can go through airport security, as shown here (he did ok this picture):

This month we also took an outing to Mt. Lemmon to have a picnic, our first time since moving here to Tucson. We didn’t make it very far since my car started overheating and we realized we may not have enough gas, but we stopped at a random little lot and still ended up having a pretty nice time:

Hyrum did swim lessons this month! I think he is getting better, though he still can’t swim alone. We may try another session in July. Here is jumping in, which he never really wanted to do, so he starts from standing, then goes down and down until he finally jumps in:

Hyrum always tells me he wants to be a “paint guy” when he grows up- meaning an artist. He got the idea from a Dora book we have about different jobs. An interesting choice for a kid who really doesn’t care for coloring much…

I told Hyrum that he needed to talk to Cora nicely, and ever since he has talked to her in a very high-pitched voice (I am assuming to mimic me). It sounds so funny on a little boy like him.

Hyrum loves hide-n-seek! I think that started with our trip to PA with Ryan’s family, where Dallen and Maren encouraged it.

Hyrum has named his two very big dinosaurs: Fruity Jones (ok, I named that one) and Jogabore (all Hyrum).

Hyrum came to me wearing this and said he was a cat-dragon, “Roooaaar, meow!”

Hyrum came up to me one day, sighed, and said, “I wish I were a race car driver. That’s my dream.”

Hyrum pointed to his freckles on his face the other day and said, “I’m getting Daddy’s freckers” with a smug little smile- like he’s stealing them.

Ryan went out of town to DC this month, and while he was gone, Hyrum missed him a lot. He asked me one morning, “how long ‘till Daddy gets home?” I told him when he woke up from a nighttime sleep two more times, Daddy would be home, so he laid his head down, and closed his eyes twice then said, “I woke up twice! Where’s Daddy?”

For Father’s Day this year, I made a card for our dads with the front like this (those are all our feet):

Ryan got crème brulee French toast for breakfast and a new grill as a gift, which he and Hyrum put together a few days later:

Ryan is such an amazing father to our children, I am really grateful for all the he does for us.
