Almost a Year Old!

Hyrum will be one year old in less than two weeks, and I can hardly believe it! One year ago, our lives changed forever. Since then, I have learned and grown so much. I now realize how motherhood is so close to God’s work because of how mothers really put another’s needs constantly in front of their own. Also, we get to experience the great joy of watching our children progress and learn, while trying to teach them right from wrong. I am so grateful for my Heavenly Father and that he helps me with this huge job every day. And I am so grateful for my little boy!

Here are some things he has been doing this month:

  • For a couple of days when I went to get Hyrum in the morning, he had somehow gotten his pajama pants off and would hand them to me as soon as I walked into his room. So funny!
  • The “childproof” locks on the cabinets in our house are no longer childproof. Hyrum has learned how to open them. Yikes!

  • The CF dietician gave us the ok to start Hyrum on cow’s milk, so we have been introducing it since I started weaning him. However, at first he would not drink the milk. He would try a tiny sip, and then refuse anything from that sippy cup the rest of the day. So, we stopped trying for a week and then re-started the introduction. This time we put a fair amount of chocolate syrup in it and called it ‘juice’ not milk. It worked! We can now put a small amount of chocolate in it and call it milk, and he will still drink it. I kind of think of it as a small miracle :)
  • Hyrum pretty much walks everywhere now, and has even started to jog a little.

Hyrum Month 11 005

  • When we were looking through a book one day, Hyrum saw a picture of a child holding her head and I pointed to the picture and said “head.” Then, Hyrum pointed to his own head! I was amazed. Then I asked him, “Hyrum, where’s your head?” And he pointed to it! I was so excited thinking that Hyrum knew where his head was. However, a few days later I decided to try to teach him “nose” but all he will point to is his head. So, oh well. He doesn’t really know where his head is. But it’s still a cute trick!
  • I taught Hyrum to fist bump, and now he insists on doing a fist bump at every meal.

  • Hyrum has danced when he hears music for awhile now, but it has now spread to all the music during church too. Last Sunday during the Primary program Hyrum was trying to escape down the aisle but had to stop in his tracks to dance to “Follow the Prophet.” The older ladies in the ward thought this was the cutest thing ever. Also, he likes to lead the music with the chorister. He’s pretty on-beat too!
  • This last picture is Hyrum’s face once he sees a camera pointed at him, because he’s trying to blink out the flash but still smile. Sooo funny!
