Hyrum’s Haircut and Other Advances

Hyrum got his first haircut! (Excuse the food on his face in the first picture, he was about to get his bath). His hair was getting so long it was getting in his eyes, so we had to cut it. I think he looks very manly now!

In other news, Hyrum will be 11 months next week and he has made some pretty cool advances:

• Not only does he stand on his own, but he now takes steps. All the time! He will walk from the coffee table to the stairs, or anywhere.  He has taken as many as ten steps without even falling at the end. It even seems like he is starting to prefer walking to crawling. Crazy!
• He also keeps trying to crouch down, pick something up, and then stand back up with the object. His face gets all red and he makes this funny grunting noise. So far he’s only been able to do it once. That could be because he likes to do this with a kickball which is like half his size.
• His favorite foods are: yogurt, apple juice, cookies, anything chocolate, and mashed potatoes.
• He really loves to play with balls, and currently they are about the only thing he wants to play with. He likes to throw the bouncy ones especially.
• He holds any small object up to his ear like a phone. I don’t think he understands yet that it only works with a cell phone.
• When Hyrum is done eating a certain food, he will take another bite, stick out his tongue, and remove the food from it. It’s gross.
• He is fascinated with opening and closing things: the laundry basket, cupboards, drawers, cell phones, etc. He also really likes light switches and turning them on and off.
• His favorite new games is the “dat” game. He LOVES to point at something and say “dat!” and then wait for Ryan or I to name it. Seriously, he plays this game all day long. He has recently also started using “dis” when he points. It almost sounds like he’s saying “this” and “that.”
