Hyrum had his first birthday a couple weeks ago, so to celebrate we had a bunch of the Martin family stay the night before, watch some conference, and generally just have a good time.
Here’s the cake I made for Hyrum:
It was supposed to look like a large cupcake, but I carved it out of cake so it doesn’t look as cupcake-like as those that are made with a special pan. But I’m still pretty proud of how it turned out :)
It had a candle on it that Hyrum didn’t blow out since he had no idea what we were trying to get him to do, but I forgot to get a picture of it (we got video footage though).
We also blew up a bunch of balloons that Hyrum has LOVED playing with. He’ll grab one in each hand and come running with the hugest smile on his face.
In these pictures he is covered with Oreo remains, since that’s what we gave him as a treat for his birthday since he wouldn’t eat the cake I made him. The only way he even touched the cake was because we shoved his hands in it. He likes chocolate cake, I think he just didn’t recognize it because it was surrounded by yellow and blue frosting.
This is our niece Savanah and our nephew JJ helping Hyrum put his party hat back on and open his presents.
He kind of was able to open the presents, though he had help. Sadly, this was the last picture I was able to take before my camera died :( But there is a lot of video footage!)
We also celebrated my mom’s and my sister-in-law’s birthday that weekend, and here’s what I made for them.
Boston Cream Pie for my mom (with homemade vanilla custard in the middle and a homemade ganache on top):
And chocolate cupcakes for my sister-in-law (with a chocolate chip cheesecake center and homemade cream cheese frosting):
awesome cakes!! and I love how they get all these presents and they just want to play with the balloons..haha. I remember Logan and Hyrum went crazy at Logan's birthday party! How cute!
