Hyrum and I made a turkey collage in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. He preferred to make the pig though:
We also did a "thankful tree" again this year. Hyrum actually added a bunch of his own this year! He really liked sticking the leaves on the tree so he had me write down lots of things he was thankful for so he could stick on more leaves (anything marked with -H is from Hyrum):
For the actual Thanksgiving festivities we headed up to Mesa to spend time with my family. It took us twice as long to get there as usual because they had to close down part of the freeway due to a crazy accident. Not my favorite drive ever.
I made the pies again this year (pumpkin made with fresh pumpkin, pecan, and derby pies) but my mom decided to make a homemade crust. The crust was SO yummy!
Here is what we all were doing Thanksgiving morning.
Ryan was sick for most of the Thanksgiving break, and thus spent it playing computer games:
Mindi and I played games with the kids:
My mom was cooking up deliciousness in the kitchen later in the morning:
Then we had dinner. It was awesome! My mom really loads up the table with two turkesy, homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows and apples, homemade sausage and apple stuffing, homemade amazing rolls, Dixie salad, green bean casserole, and other things I'm sure that I can't think of right now. My mom really is an amazing cook.
Here we are enjoying the bounty of America (and really, the world):
And where was Cora? In her pack n'play. I think she napped during dinner.
After dinner we were all ad-searching as usual and may have even played a few games. When my sister comes to town, she and I and Ryan and James usually spend a couple of nights playing games. We family loves to play games together! Usually my dad wants to play an old school game like Clue and we all want to play a new, complicated game. And then my mom will pop in and out while cooking or cleaning and play a couple games. Our niece is actually getting old enough to play with us now and it's been fun to add her to our game nights.
On Black Friday I was out with Cora most of the day, and thankfully got the majority of my Christmas shopping done by the end of it! Mindi went with me to a couple of places on Friday and then my mom went with me to a couple of places on Saturday, so it was some good girl time all around. We had a great Thanksgiving in Mesa! (Except Ryan, who was sick, but oh well).
