March 2013

Hyrum has decided he likes to draw and color again! For months and months I could not get him interested in coloring. He would even come home from Sunbeams or Nursery with one faint colored line on his coloring page. Then all of the sudden, he loves it! The thing he mostly draws is our family or just Daddy. I am even getting him to work on his letters a little, so hopefully he can learn those soon!

Here’s Hyrum’s first drawing of our family (sometimes there are more than 4 people in his drawings and he tells me has included some of his friends as part of his family):

Hyrum’s pronunciation of some things just makes me laugh: vitermans (vitamins), queskion (question), modencycle (motorcycle), dathroom (bathroom), and Ryan’s favorite- burpday (birthday).

Here’s Hyrum on St. Patrick’s Day with the pot of gold a lepruchan left for us. We did a little hunt with clues for it and Hyrum LOVED it! He went running excitedly from clue to clue.

Here’s some other funny things Hyrum has said lately, “Your daughter is awake!” when Cora is crying in her crib, and “I am so angry at you!” when he has to go to his room or when I make him turn off the computer. He’s also started saying phrases that start with, “sometimes boys…” I guess he is trying to explain his behavior to me? Some examples: “Sometimes boys throw things.” “Sometimes boys eat Goldfish.” or “Sometimes boys get hurt.”

Hyrum has started to name things, which makes for some pretty fun playtimes. When we were playing with a lion and a tiger he told me one of them was named Short Legs and the other was Scratchy McScratcherson.

Hyrum randomly set up the chairs this way while Daddy was working and said it was a train:

Hyrum started soccer this month and is loving it! Here he is at his first practice:

Cora has started to say a word frequently besides Mama: “uh-oh!” I think she also says “mum-mum-mum” for more.

Cora can stand by herself for a few seconds, but usually only when made to. She’ll also walk if you hold her hands. Cora does wish she could climb too, because I see her many times putting her leg up on something and pushing up, trying to climb it but she just doesn’t have the strength. Hyrum wasn’t really a climber, so I think I’m going to be in a bit of trouble with her in a few months!

Cora LOVES peek-a-boo! She even plays it by herself all the time and will laugh tons if you play it with her.

When Cora wants something, she will not be distracted. I can surround her with other toys she loves, but she will continue to go for the crayon I put up high out of her reach. She also already seems to know what to do to irk her brother, and she is playing the little sister card already. If a toy gets taken away from her or I put something she wants out of her reach, she will immediately start crying as hard as she can.

In other news, Ryan and I went to Wicked a few weeks ago! It was SOO awesome! Almost as good as seeing it the first time on Broadway. Ryan loved it as well, and since going we have both had Wicked songs perpetually stuck in our heads. We loved it so much we were a little jealous of our friends who went the night after we went. We wished we were going again! And again. And again. We are a little obsessed at the moment Smile
