February 2014

This is how prayer looks for me almost every night- both kids want to sit on my lap, and they usually fight about it (so without the smiles):

Cora loves to help me cook. If she sees me cooking or baking, even if her favorite show is on, she will run to the kitchen to help me. She likes to put the ingredients in measuring cups into the bowl very quickly, so I really have to watch her if she is “helping,” or else I have a huge mess on my hands!
Cora learned to jump this month! She only gets it about one in every 3 attempts, but she is very proud of herself.

We went to the Gilbert Temple open house this month. It was a really great experience, and I am glad I got to take Hyrum in to the temple. He still remembers it, and every time he sees a picture of this temple he says, “We went in there!” This is definitely one of the prettiest temples I have been to on the inside.

Hyrum has started telling knock-knock jokes, and he thinks they are hilarious! They were funny at first, just hearing his nonsensical jokes and him laughing hysterically at them, but he has told them for nearly a week in a row now….. so it’s getting to be less funny. Here’s a sample joke:
Hyrum: Knock knock
Me: Who’s there?
Hyrum: cock-a-doodle
Me: cock-a-doodle who?
Hyrum: cock-a-doodle plate! HAHAHAHAHA!
Cora has heard Hyrum do them so much that she does it too now, and between the two of them I have definitely heard PLENTY of jokes Smile

I was in charge of preschool for the first session this semester, and I did a Spanish curriculum. The kids loved it! For our ‘field trip’ we did a fiesta at my house, where the kids helped make tortillas, red, green, and white decorations, and got to break open a piñata:

Hyrum and I made some flags to decorate our house for the Olympics. And we enjoyed watching them a lot of the month!

Car has started calling her ride-on cars “beep-beep” and the toy trains “choo-choo.” She also got a cold this month that caused a very runny nose, so whenever she needs a tissue she now says, “pease, Mama.”

Hyrum found an old pocket mirror of mine the other day, and he loves to carry it around. One time he opened it, put it in my face and asked, “do you want to see if you’re pretty?”
Hyrum has told me a couple times this month, “I’m sick, so I need to watch a show.” Nice try buddy!

For Valentine’s Day this year we were in Mesa (and Flagstaff), so I brought everyone’s valentines with us. Hyrum really wanted to give out gummy worm valentines at preschool, so I made some up for him, and we gave the kisses valentines to our family who were all up in Flagstaff with us:

The kids got books, little cereals, and Hershey kisses for Valentine’s Day. Ryan got donuts, candy, a webcam, and a computer Lego game. Ryan got me a fun couples game:

Ryan whispered in Hyrum’s ear, “the magic word is ‘a la peanut butter sandwiches’.” Hyrum whispered back, “she can’t, she’s allergic.” He was referring to Cora, of course. I’m glad he watches out for his little sister!

The kids got some fun photo props from an Arby’s kid’s meal on our Flagstaff trip, so we decided to take some fun pictures with them when we got home:
