We took a quick weekend trip to Moab in March this year, and we had a really great time together as a family. We drove down after Hyrum's championship swim meet, had a yummy dinner at Moab diner, and stayed the night in a hotel. The next morning we woke up and went on our first hike to see our first arch: Delicate Arch. It was windy and a little cold, and it even sprinkled for a bit on the way, but it was fun!
Some views along the hike:
We all made it to the arch! The kids even said the hike wasn't as hard as they thought it would be.Me, Zane, and Ivy didn't go to right under the arch since it seemed a little dangerous for little kids, but Ryan, Hyrum, and Cora went right under it!
At the bottom of the Delicate Arch trail, we saw some petroglyphs:
After the Delicate Arch hike, we had a picnic lunch. Then we hiked to see Landscape Arch, which was also cool, though we couldn't hike under it:The area of Arches National Park that has Landscape Arch has a lot of "fins," and I thought they were so cool and I wanted to hike one. Zane, "the mountain goat," climbed one with me!
And we saw Tunnel Arch in that same area too:
After those arches we spent some time at Sand Dune Arch:
The kids loved climbing around all the different features:
We also brought some sand toys for them to play in all the super soft sand:
We were all pretty tired after all that hiking and climbing, so we headed back to Moab and got a yummy dinner at Zax and headed back to the hotel for the night.
The next morning we went to Canyonlands National Park, and the first place we stopped was at Mesa Arch. It was pretty foggy, so for awhile we couldn't see much beyond the arch:
When the fog cleared we could see how far down the ground really was!
The kids loved climbing on the rocks there too (only where the marker said it was ok):
We hiked that trail, and the boys made it all the way to the end, but the girls were too tired to do the end, so we just hung out and waited for them along the trail for a bit:
Then we headed back to Moab for lunch, where we got some food from their food truck center:
We also saw South Window arch from a distance:
Our last arch was Turret Arch, where we stayed awhile as the kids climbed and played, and Ryan and I enjoyed the view:
We also saw Double Arch across the parking lot, though we did walk over to it. After all that hiking in two days, we were pretty exhausted, but it was such a cool and amazing trip. The world is such a beautiful place, and I feel so blessed to be able to experience it!
