“If heaven is nothing more than this…”

Are you ever sitting there, feeling really good and happy about life, and then you think, “this is a moment I want to remember”? I think Elder Marlin K. Jensen sums it up pretty well in his devotional talk “How To Be Happy”:

“Sometimes after an enjoyable family home evening or during a fervent family prayer or when our entire family is at the dinner table on Sunday evening eating waffles and engaging in a session of lively, good-natured conversation, I quietly say to myself, ‘If heaven is nothing more than this, it will be good enough for me.’”

I get those moments all the time when I’m with Hyrum, especially because I know the time being a mom goes so quickly and kids change and grow up so fast. I think of these as ‘snapshots of awesome mom moments’, and I just wanted to write a few down.

  • Being chased by cheese-puff fingers around the house
  • Yelling contests in the car
  • His cheesy smile that I know mimics mine
  • Playing ball in Hyrum’s crib
  • How Hyrum lays his head on my shoulder when I take him to bed
  • When Hyrum signs back “I love you”
  • How he wants only me to comfort him when he gets hurt
  • Our bedtime ritual of “give Mommy a kiss, now give Daddy a kiss, now Mommy, now Daddy, now give Mommy a hug”

Really, being a mom is awesome and I love it. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I really feel SO lucky that I get to be the one to raise my kid- that I get to be home with him all day, every day. I definitely believe that Home Can Be a Heaven on Earth, and that at our house, some moments, it is.
