Hyrum has had a drawing outburst- he never used to care much for coloring or drawing, but all of the sudden he loves it. He loves to color over EVERYTHING, even on my computer monitor. I never had to keep the crayons out of reach before, but now they are all safely on top of our tall bookshelf!
Hyrum insists on wearing this shirt backwards so he can see Buzz Lightyear when he looks in the mirror:
Hyrum has started singing songs he makes up, mostly where he repeats the same word over and over in different tones. Pretty cute!
I probably mentioned this in the 4th of July post, but Hyrum is scared of fireworks but now ‘sees’ them every night and wants to see them again. What he sees are pretty much lights on towers that blink or airplanes at night.
Hyrum is VERY scared of flies- so much so that if they keep touching him he may cry about it.
Hyrum now knows the sounds all of the letters make except for a couple. He mostly learned it from the TV show “Super Why,” but I do work with him on them also.
Hyrum keeps saying that he is just a boy, like if I say “you’re cute,” he’ll say, “I not cute, I just a boy!” He has taken this even further and said things like, “I not cwying, I just a boy!” once he is finally done with a huge tantrum. It’s pretty funny because he is convinced he is just a boy, no matter what other adjective I try to add. Sometimes he will follow that with “I not a boy, I just Hywum! I not a boy, I just Hywum Schuetzler!”
Hyrum has started to finally pay attention to our family scripture study at night (besides looking at the birds, boat, etc in the pictures). He has even memorized his favorite pages that have Jesus walking on water and calming the storm. He insists that we read that particular story every night as well as a new scripture story.
After a particularly crazy monsoon our power went out for eight or nine hours overnight. Hyrum liked to watch the construction of the new poles going up over the next few days:
Cora: rolls to her side occasionally, yells, talks a ton, moved to her crib, a lot of people say she looks like Hyrum, bats at and talks to her toys
Ryan taught an intro to information systems course at U of A this past semester and loved it! His students seemed to think he was pretty good too (you can check out his ratings on ratemyprefessors.com)
Cora loves her Bumbo!
I finally got a picture of Cora smiling on the day she turned three months (she’s been doing it for awhile now but it has been hard to get a picture of it):
We celebrated pioneer day with some pioneer bread, chocolate pudding cake, and a family home evening about the pioneers. Here’s our makeshift handcart that Hyrum got to pull like the pioneers did (it’s made out of a Tonka dump truck and some spoons):
