December 2013

In December, Hyrum’s preschool group went to visit a local TV station for their weather unit. They got to play with the green screen for the weather and even record a small commercial for the KGUN9 meteorologist, Erin:

Hyrum was mean to Cora one afternoon, and so I took him to his room (his punishment). On our way up there, I was telling him how hitting was a bad choice and such when he asked, “Will Santa still bring me a present?” So funny. We haven’t really pushed the Santa thing, so it’s amazing what these kids pick up from TV shows!

Hyrum finished T-ball this month, and he was so excited to get his trophy:

One night Hyrum but his empty bowl on his head and said, “let’s call it a hat-bowl!” and he fake laughed like that was the funniest thing ever. Then he said, “Let’s call it a joke!” and then we all actually laughed.

Hyrum got to shoot a BB gun with Grandpa Martin for the first time when they came to visit this month. He keeps calling it a baby gun, and I get confused.

We celebrated my birthday this year with some friends. My friend has the exact same birthday as me, so we had dinner and cake together and then played games late into the night. It was really fun! On my actual birthday we were all sick except Cora, so we didn’t really do any celebrating (though I had friends bring me dinner and cookies). We did make it up recently though and I got breakfast in bed, dinner at Sweet Tomatoes, and gelato from Tazzina di Gelato! I got a color printer and clothes from my parents and awesome brown boots from Ryan’s parents. Great birthday!

Our ward Christmas party this year was awesome! It was a breakfast with a photo booth, meet Santa, and frame decorating. The kids loved it all!

Cora was freaked out by Santa this year, and always clung to me anytime she would get close to one, but Hyrum was entranced by Santa and thought meeting him was pretty darn cool.

They both decorated frames for our fridge, and loved it:

When the whole Martin family were coming to stay at our house after Christmas, we had Hyrum and Cora sleep in our room so the other adults could all have a room. When I was explaining to Hyrum about how he and Cora were both going to sleep in Mommy and Daddy’s room, he did a fist pump and said, “Yes! Best sleepover ever!”

As a family we decorated our gingerbread house. Cora didn’t really want to participate in the decorating, but she and Hyrum certainly participated in the eating of candy.

Cora now loves to stand on her chair while she eats, and really doesn’t want to sit in her booster seat anymore. It always seems a little dangerous to me, but she makes less of a mess that way! She also is REALLY loving Dora lately. She’ll even say “Oh man!” when told the “Swiper no swiping” line.

When we went to Kurchner caverns a few weeks ago, the ranger was talking about safety and proper behavior in the cave and all, and Cora saunters right into the middle of the crowd and starts to dance and sing, with everyone in our group watching. It was so funny!

She also likes to stick her play cell phone into her footie pajamas. She did that one night when I wasn’t watching, and went to bed that way. When Ryan got her up in the morning and unzipped her [pajamas to change her diaper, he was surprised to find her cell phone in there! Now she always thinks her cell phone is in her pajamas, whether it is or not.

I had the great opportunity to go to one of my good friend’s endowment sessions this month as well. I am so happy for her and happy that I could be there:
