Since Ryan has a super busy summer working on grant proposals, job applications, and his dissertation, we knew he wouldn’t really be able to take a vacation with us this summer. So, I decided I would take a road trip to visit family and friends without him!
15 days. Over 33.5 hours of driving time. Over 2,200 miles. One pregnant adult and two kids. Yep, I did that. And survived! Woohoo! There were a lot of stops at fast food restaurants with playplaces, like this one near Vegas:
The kids also had tons to do in the car, like some new toys from the dollar store they are showing off here:
My first real stop was in Las Vegas, NV for my cousin’s wedding. The kids LOVED staying in a hotel. They jumped from one bed to the other, asked to ride the elevator a million times (though Cora was scared of it at first), and begged to play the slot machines (since to Hyrum they looked a lot like arcade games and they had a Barbie one Cora wanted to play). I had to drag the kids through the whole casino every time we wanted to go anywhere out of our room, and I felt kind of weird taking such young kids through it. However, I probably had 6 (mostly women) stop me and say how cute Cora was. It probably helped that she more prances than walks these days.
We stayed at El Cortez, and here we are, waiting for Grandma and Grandpa Martin to pick us up to go to the wedding:
The Las Vegas temple! The kids’ favorite part was the fountain:
My cousin had a cute reception, and the kids loved playing with their cousins and trying on these little props:
Our next stop was in the La Verkin/Hurricane area to visit cousins and Aunts and Uncles. We went to the splash pad there with my cousin and her kids and then went to a yummy snow cone place (owned by another cousin of mine). The kids weren’t much into snow cones, but they really liked the gummy sharks you could get on top!
That evening we visited with another one of my cousins, and I was up way too late talking The kids enjoyed their love sac:
The next day was Father’s Day, so we went to church in the morning, then loaded up and went to Manti, UT to visit my Grandma and Grandpa Langford. Hyrum snuggled right up to them both, but Cora was a bit more leery. It was great to be able to visit them on my trip!
Cora refusing to be in the other picture:
This was as close as she’d get for the picture, but when we left she gave both my Grandma and Grandpa a big hug so I guess she got over it.
