Cora is very much a girly-girl. She loves pigtails, loves having her hair done, changes her clothes a few times a day, can usually be seen wearing a princess dress-up, crown, and play heels, and wearing her Sunday dresses is one of her favorite things! She is almost always carrying around some sort of princess doll, Barbie, or purse. Love it!
Cora has also started to show her “2-ness.” She has had a couple major tantrums over silly things and has tried to assert herself with “no” a lot, which results in her pouting in the corner or crying in her room. Such is the life of a 2 year old, I guess.
Hyrum started preschool again! I’m no longer doing the co-op preschool, he is going to a preschool at a woman’s home close to our neighborhood. A lot of his friends from the ward go there too, so he is really enjoying it.
Cora has some favorite movies she picks when it’s her turn to choose: Despicable Me, Anastasia, Thumbelina (but only the first few minutes), Bubble Guppies, and Strawberry Shortcake. For books, she almost always chooses Pinkalicious (she thinks the little girl is her) and/or Fancy Nancy (she also thinks it’s her), as well as Dora books of any kind.
Hyrum loves to pretend to be a bat these days, especially using his hooded towel after a bath (because then it’s like wings). He is also very into The Wild Kratts, because he always loves to pretend he can push pretend buttons on his clothes and he turns into a different creature.
One phrase Hyrum says that makes me laugh: “You’re messing up my words!” Which means, ‘You’re interrupting me, and that makes me lose my train of thought and forget what I was saying.’ He uses this especially often in regards to his little sister.
These kids LOVE to help me cook. It makes a big mess and takes me way longer, but I love that they love being in the kitchen with me
The kids have watched Cinderella a few times this month, and apparently the song “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes” has made Hyrum think a bit. During that part he asks me things like, ‘'If I tell you my dream, it won’t come true?” and “what does ‘come true’ mean?” Those are big thoughts for a 4-year-old.
Cora always changes her clothes after breakfast, because she almost always spills milk on her pajamas while she eats her cereal. This happens because she picked up the habit from Ryan of drinking her milk out of her bowl. One day she hadn’t actually spilled milk on her pajamas and she told Ryan she wanted to change, but Ryan told her she didn’t need to because her shirt was still clean. She told him, “Oh, drink my milk!” She then went, drank the milk out of her bowl, spilled on her shirt, and then was ready to change her wet clothes. Silly girl!
The kids did swimming lessons this month with Sunshine Swim School. I did a mommy and kid class with Cora and Hyrum was in a class with another kid and a teacher. Cora loves the water and thinks she can swim- so much so she sometimes wants me to let her go in the pool, even though she can’t swim yet. Maybe next summer she’ll be swimming! Hyrum has made GREAT improvements with his swimming. Before his lessons, he fought hard about even putting his face in the water. Now, he can swim a short ways by himself and can sometimes take a breath and keep going. So proud of him!
At the beginning of this month Ryan went to Savannah, GA for a big conference. While there, he had 11 interviews for potential jobs for next year all over a three day time period! He is amazing. We are still waiting to hear if he made the next cut for interviews for any of the schools, plus he’s still applying to more schools all the time. The job search has officially begun!
Ryan had his LAST first day of school this month!! He doesn’t actually have classes (and he hasn’t for a year or two), but he is still a student, so I count it. It was also his first day teaching his new class at U of A, so here’s his ‘first day’ pic:
For my gift for Mother’s Day this year I wanted us to all go out to lunch and to be able to take a family trip to a museum, so this month, we finally did it! The kids actually did pretty good and it was SO fun to be able to enjoy some art again and share it with my kids. Happy Mother’s Day to me!
Ryan and I celebrated our 7th anniversary this month! For our celebration date, we went on a ‘food crawl.’ We had appetizers at one place:
Dinner (burgers) at another:
Dessert at a fun 50’s place:
And we even got drinks (some fun-flavored soda) at another place. It was pretty fun!
Ryan got me these flowers for our anniversary/Mother’s Day/my birthday. They were beautiful! I also made some mini cheesecakes for a Relief Society activity this month for the first time, and I think they turned out great!
Some wonderful friends of mine got together a girl’s night out this month to celebrate our little boy coming in November, and we had a great time chatting and eating at Chili’s! They are so sweet and this little boy has some cute new things for when he comes
Another awesome date we had this month was to the first U of A football game. Ryan’s advisor was out of town, so she gave us her sweet tickets in the “Loge” section, aka in a box! We had a private elevator up to our level, real seats (instead of bleachers), a delicious Mediterranean-inspired buffet which included free drinks and popcorn the whole game, plus a great view of the game with plenty of space! That has really spoiled me, because I’m not sure I could see a football game any other way now
