Hyrum turned 5 last week! On his birthday, he got his favorite cereal for breakfast- Lucky Charms:
Then he got to open his presents from us (hooded bat towel and Monsters Inc.):
and Grandma and Grandpa Schuetzler (the Super Hero Squad plus a bad guy):
Then he got to play at his best friend’s house for a few hours in the morning. Ryan then took him to lunch at McDonald’s, he played with his new toys, and we played board games and made cookies together (one of his favorite things to do). Later we got his favorite dinner (pizza with Crazy Bread) and he picked Despicable Me 2 to watch while we ate it. We made him a giant chocolate chip cookie (since that’s one of his favorite desserts) to sing to him after dinner and he got to blow out his candles:
The next morning was his birthday party, and boy was he excited for it! He’s been talking about it for weeks and couldn’t wait for all his friends to come over and celebrate his birthday. It was a superhero birthday, and I kind of went all out for it since I knew it would be the last big birthday party for awhile. I made superhero suckers for the kids to take home:
And we had a Captain America fruit shield, Avengers Cheez-its, cheese sticks, popcorn, and Superhero logo Capri-Suns for their snack (Hyrum’s favorite snacks):
Once friends got there (16 friends attended), they started by decorating super hero masks. The girls lasted a lot longer decorating their masks than the boys:
Then they shot water squirters at print-outs of villains from different movies. The kids loved this! They continued to do this throughout the party. They would squirt and squirt them until the villain fell off the wall and they had ‘defeated’ the villain. Then they stuck it back on the wall and started all over again!
We also had a Captain America shield game set up, where the kids could try to throw the frisbee so it would knock down a “wall.” That was pretty fun and I think most of the kids tried it at least once:
Then we had snacks, cake, and ice cream. My friend Jessica made Hyrum’s birthday cake, and it was phenomenal! Definitely my favorite part of the whole party. I also may or may not have set one of the paper cake toppers on fire when lighting the candles…. But no worries! I put it out super quick:
Hyrum just stared at his cake the whole time the kids sang to him:
Not only did the cake look awesome, it tasted good too. In fact, for the first time ever, he ate some of his birthday cake! He mostly ate the Captain America shield (made out of fondant), but he ate some! I was so proud
Then Hyrum opened up quite a few presents, which I think was his favorite part of the party (and he has been thoroughly enjoying them since):
Then we hit the Spiderman piñata! Every kid (20 total, including 3 littles and Hyrum) got to try hitting the piñata 3 times. Then 2 mothers also got to try, and the last friend ended up having to get the piñata on the ground and stabbing it with the stick to get it to open. She even bent the broom handle trying to hit that thing open. But eventually the kids got candy! Yay!
We had to take some superhero pictures with the cool city backdrop I made for good measure after the party was over:
It was an awesome party, and I’m really glad I got to put it together for Hyrum and his friends. He still talks about his party and how fun it was to have his friends over! Since Ryan had to work during it, I am also very glad I have good friends who are willing to help me wrangle 20 kids No more parties for me for awhile… At least not until April!
Oh, I love it! It's so cute! I'm glad that you were able to do something so fun!
