For New Year’s Eve this year we went to a friend’s house, where the kids loved playing and we got to watch the new Mission Impossible movie. We had to get home before midnight, because all of us were too tired, but when we got home we pulled some poppers, blew horns, and wore our New Year’s crowns!
On New Year’s Day we followed our tradition- we went to a movie in the morning, followed by dinner out that evening. We had planned on seeing the Good Dinosaur, but found out the seats were wold out when we got to the theater. The only movie that had enough seats for us that morning that was kid-friendly was Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Yep. We paid for the real theater for all of us to see that. Actually, Hyrum loved it and Cora liked it, so it turned out fine. And Ryan didn’t really miss anything when he had to take Zane out.
Ryan took Hyrum to see Star Wars in January too, and he loved it! He also brought this stuffed dog from his kindergarten class, as he got to spend the week with it and had to document their time together. The dog also played with Magformers with us and helped Hyrum practice the piano.
Which, oh yeah, Hyrum started piano lessons! He begged me for them for weeks, and we finally got a piano so he could start! He loved it at first, then realized what practicing was all about and became a little less enthused. But he’s been learning a lot and is liking it again. He’s doing awesome!
This month, Ryan got to hear President Obama speak in person! And from only a few rows behind him! Obama came to UNO (where Ryan works) to give a speech. A once in a lifetime opportunity, for sure.
Hyrum told me one night, while I laid down with him at bedtime, “when you leave, I pretend another one of you is laying by me, so you’ll always be with me.” Heart melting!
The kids finally got to touch the sea animals in the touch tank! They both took some convincing, but I think they liked it. Kind of.
A conversation between the kids at church on a day when Zane and I stayed home since Zane was sick:
Hyrum: I want to see Z! I forgot what he looks like. (He had seen Zane not 5 minutes earlier)
Cora: He’s a human! He looks like a bobblehead.
The kids out helping Ryan shovel:
The kids love sledding on the hill by the park near our house!
Zane has started to “read” books. He just kind of babbles in a sing-songy way when he’s looking through a book. It’s adorable!
This month, Zane has started to pat your back when you hold him close, just like we pat his back. He also has his Little People giraffe give himself kisses on the cheeks, just like I do to him. So cute!
One night I gave both Ryan and Hyrum little massages while Cora watched me. I asked her if she would like a massage too, and she gave me a horrified look and said, “I don’t want a mustache!”
Cora has started to say things like, “I do this, and BAM!” along with a little pose. Super adorable.
I let Cora paint my toe nails after I painted her nails one day. She did alright for her first time!
Hyrum told me he wants to be six things when he grows up. A miner (so he can get his own gold), a teacher, a baby doctor, an animal doctor, and two more he couldn’t remember.
Cora learned the song Feliz Navidad in preschool in December, and one day in January I hear her singing, “Police Navidad, Police Navidad” over and over to herself.
Cora is now a Sunbeam! Yay! She also told me one night at dinner after I had made her try one bite of what we were having (tortellini) and she spit it out, “It didn’t work, ‘cuz my mouth wanted mac n’ cheese.”
Zane made it through an entire sacrament meeting at church in the chapel for the first time in months! Very exciting. We also can’t wait till he’s old enough for nursery!
This is a face Zane made a lot this month:
Hyrum told us one night, “I am NOT going to college. I’m gonna be a GUITER PLAYER!!!” (said while he rocks out on the air guitar).
He got to go to a birthday party this month where they made hand monsters at a pottery painting place. He had lots of fun!
Zane has learned even more crazy things this month, such as, climbing on chairs onto tables, taking off his pants, and walking! He keeps us on our toes: pulling all the books off the bookshelves and ripping out pages, pulling everything out of all my cupboards, playing in the toilet, etc.
It’s a good thing he’s so cute!
This is Cora, talking on the banana phone to Jeremy (like Candace). Any Phineas and Ferb fans? Our kids have been quoting them constantly!
