In January we were able to take a weekend trip to Zion National Park. We've been wanting to visit there as a family for awhile, and it was great!
On our way there we got some Burger King in Fillmore (which may have been Ivy's first time to BK!):
We started the next morning at Court of the Patriarchs:
Then we hiked the beginning part of the Narrows (also known as the Riverside Walk). The kids were so intrigued by the walking in the river part at the end that they want to come back and do The Narrows soon when it's warm:
The kids really love to climb rocks:
We loved this ice heart we found:
There were a lot of little waterfalls around, since it had been icy and then it was sunny:
We got to go under this cute little waterfall on this hike, and then we were going to continue further, but the trail had a part that was solid ice with a dropoff next to it. We decided to just move on, and just in time too, because they closed off this trail (because of the ice), right after we got back to the main trail. We were some of the last people to do this part of the trail until Spring they said!
So much climbing:
We ended the evening with some delicious food and a stop at the restaurant at Bumbleberry Inn. They had a lot of good treats there, so I think we ended there every night of our trip!
The next morning we started with hiking the Canyon Overlook Trail, which has some awesome views, as well as some scary (and icy) bridges:
Our last big hike is called the Hobbit Hole- and it isn't on the normal maps, but I read about it online. It was a really fun stop! We first had to go through this tunnel:
Then we made it to a short slot canyon:
And we found the Hobbit Hole!
Ivy liked the soft sand there too:
Then we drove around and saw the East side of Zion National park:
Of course we had to stop at the Visitor Center so Zane and Ivy could become Jr. Rangers!
We ended that day with a really good Mexican meal, though we had to sit outside in the cold:
Our last morning we saw some deer in the parking lot at our hotel:
Then we went to hike in the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park. We did the Timber Creek Overlook Trail, which also had beautiful views (though it was a bit scary for me at the top!):
The place we stayed was beautiful and surrounded by the red rocks. I thought the night sky looked pretty too:
It was a great trip, and it was so nice to finally see what people come from all over the world to see!
