I Reached My Goal!

So, I made a goal for myself last August that I wanted to to lose 28 pounds by the beginning of April. And… I reached it! I have lost 28.5 pounds in the past 8 months, and I feel  awesome. Ryan has also lost 30 pounds!

Hyrum Month 18 005

(I thought this was the same outfit, but oh well. Really, I can’t wear the white or jean shorts anymore, but I put them on for a good before and after).

Hyrum Month 18 006

How did I do it? I cut my calories to 2,000 a day (I was eating way too many before) and exercised about five times a week at home, with workout videos (about 30 mins). We also pretty much stopped going out to eat, switched to skim milk, and most importantly, we did it together. I don’t think I ever would have stuck to this if Ryan hadn’t done it with me.

I think the hardest part was the first 2 or 3 months, where I just had to get used to being hungry while my stomach shrunk. I think that’s what I’ve been missing when I’ve tried to lose weight previously- I had a hard time being hungry. I know you don’t have to be hungry to lose weight (you can eat veggies all the time, eat more fiber, etc) but that has never worked for me before. However, now I’m hardly ever hungry between mealtimes and am satisfied with smaller portions. Yay!

These are lifestyle changes, and I plan to keep this weight off (besides pregnancy). I may lose some more, but it doesn’t really matter anymore because I’m happy where I am. And the changes are definitely healthier. Right now I’m trying to incorporate more fruit and veggies into our diet so we can truly be healthy!

  1. I'm so proud of you! For everyone else, that mention of pregnancy is NOT an announcement. :)

  2. That's awesome! You look great!! I've been wanting to lose weight for the past few years, I'd love any tips/suggestions you have. What workout videos do you use? What sort of meals do you make for you and Ryan?

  3. Way to go - you look great! Even though I haven't nursed in many months, I think I'm still eating like I am. We're trying to cut back to, so it's good to know that you eventually stop being hungry all the time!

  4. I gained 10 pounds after being on my birth control for less than two months after two months. I switched, and I have lost it, but we plan on doing the same thing.

so happy for you, lots of hard hard work! :)

  5. I don't know if I have any suggestions besides what I posted... But I like mixing it up between dance workout videos and harder, strength type videos. Some of my favorites are Jillian Michael's 30 day shred, Dance Off The Inches, and Tae-bo. Lately I've just been trying a lot of the workouts on Netflix streaming, and I'm loving the variety!

I make the same meals I always did for me and Ryan, we just eat less of them. We usually only have one chicken dish and one beef dish a week (since meat is so expensive) but we've always done that. I make all sorts of things- casseroles, crockpot stuff, burritos, pasta, etc. I forgot to mention this above, but I counted calories like crazy at first. I really knew exactly how many calories there were per serving, which sometimes took a lot of calculation, but I only had to do it once per recipe, so that was nice. It really helped me know how many calories I'm having. I laid it out with 500 calories for breakfast, 500 for lunch, 500 for dinner, and 500 for a dessert/treat every day. A lot of days I probably ended up with fewer than 2,000 calories because my cereal in the morning wasn't really 500 calories all the time. I still do this, just not as exact because I've got a better idea of serving sizes and such.

    I hope this helps!
