Lights at the Zoo and the Mesa Temple

We had a few different opportunities to see awesome Christmas light displays this year.

At the very beginning of the month we went to the Zoo Lights at Reid Park Zoo in Tucson. Hyrum saw Santa for the first time there, and though he was hesitant at first, he did sit on his lap with a little coaxing. We didn’t get a picture though because it would have cost us five bucks. We all enjoyed the lights too, even though it was raining pretty much the whole time.

We had a close encounter with the lion. We thought the animals wouldn’t be out during the lights, so it really surprised us when we saw the lion staring right at us through his enclosure as we walked by. It was almost a little scary how intently the lion was watching us, and the bars on his enclosure seemed really flimsy in the dark. Pretty cool! Sadly, we were too surprised, mesmerized, and (on my part) scared to think to pull out the camera. Oh well!

The whole way home from the zoo lights Hyrum kept saying, “Santa. Lap. Fun!” over and over. I think he really enjoyed his first experience with Santa!

At the very end of the month we went with my family to see the lights at the Mesa temple. The lights were awesome, as always, and the nativity really helped me think about Christ’s birth and it’s meaning to me.

While there, I pointed to one of the missionaries and told Hyrum, "look! This is a missionary. Are you going to be a missionary someday?”

He told me, “nope” and ran away into the crowds. I definitely heard the missionaries laughing over that one.
