San Francisco Trip

Ryan and I got to go on a trip just the two of us to San Francisco in July. We had so much fun!

The first thing we did when we got there was to go to the Mission area to get a Mission burrito (Ryan's main reason to want to go to SF). It was delicious, as was the agua fresca:

Then we went to see the Painted Ladies by Alamo Square park. They were pretty, but we saw much cooler row houses as we kept looking throughout the trip:

Beautiful view!

Then we walked over to the Full House house. It surprised me how small it is!

Then we ended up just walking around and looking at all the cool architecture. It was a lot of walking up and down hills:

We ended up on "billionare's row" near the Presidio, and man, the houses there were amazing!

We ended up walking all the way to the Palace of Fine Arts. It was pretty and cool to learn about the history of the building:

Then we walked on down to the beach, where we saw the Golden Gate bridge and some wind surfers:

The next day we started out by taking the historic trolley down to Fisherman's Wharf. Ryan even got to hang off of the side!

Then we checked out some sights around Fisherman's Wharf, including getting clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl:

I was glad to see that Trish's Donuts is still at Pier 39! I went there a lot with my parents when I was younger:

Then we took a GoCar on a tour around San Francisco. We even drove it down Lombard street (a famously crooked street):

Then we hit Musee Mecanique, which is an arcade full of really old games. We tried the "Kiss-O-Meter" and got "timid" and even got Laughing Sal going. It was a really interesting and unique place:

We had to stop by Ghirardelli square while we were there, which is pretty much just a shopping center now. We did try their famous hot fudge sundae, and it was SO good:

We ended the day with a trip out to Alcatraz Island. The boat ride out had some pretty beautiful views:

We enjoyed the audio tour and learned a lot about what life was like out on "the Rock."

Our last full day in SF we started out at Golden Gate Park, where we saw some interesting statues and fountains:

Then we toured the Japanese Tea Garden, which was beautiful and unique:

We saw the rose garden in the Golden Gate park on our way out, and then checked out a Szechuan restaurant nearby:

That afternoon we rented a couple e-Bikes and biked across the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito and back. It was awesome and one of my favorite parts of the trip!

We also stopped at Lucasfilm and checked out the Yoda statue:

For dinner, we stopped at the Ferry Building Marketplace, where everything was pretty much closed already, but we did get to try some amazing empanadas and ice cream, and take these pictures:

Our last event of the night was a baseball game at Oracle Park to watch the Giants! Ryan used to come here for games when he was little, so it was a bit nostalgic for him. The ballpark is right on the water, so it's cool to walk around and peek over the wall to see the bay.

We ended up sitting behind some really obnoxious young adults, who had snuck in some liquor and were constantly yelling swear words at the players, and we were also freezing, so we ended up only staying through the 6th inning, but it was still a fun time.
The next morning was our flight, but we ended the trip the same way we started it- with delicious food! We had crepes at a place nearby our hotel, and they were amazing!
It was so fun and wonderful to spend a few days with just each other, and it was a great way to celebrate 15 years of marriage! We were super grateful for Grandma and Grandpa Martin who watched our kids at home- they had a great time!
