Cora now says “muh-muh” and I think she really means me, because she never babbles it and only says it while looking at me and mostly in an upset, I want you to pick me up kind-of-way. Cora also says “ba-ba” now and just generally chats quite a bit.
Cora is no longer breastfeeding! She decided she was done at about 8.5 months. She has actually done a lot better since I stopped: she sleeps longer and more, has been more motivated to move, has moved up in weight percentiles, and is happier when she’s awake. I also have TONS more energy. I guess she was sucking it right out of me! I am grateful I was able to nurse as long as I did, but I also know it is the right thing for her to be done.
Cora’s 9 month stats: 17 lbs 9 oz (24th percentile) and 28.25 inches (73rd percentile)
Cora is kind of crawling finally! She has done a few crawls from the hands and knees position, but she kind of combines it with rolling, a little army crawling, and some scooting forward with her face on the ground using her toes (I should get it on video). I’m thinking she’ll be crawling for real by the time she is 10 months. I hope.
Hyrum likes to eat “clean” things. For instance, when he was at a friend's birthday party she had made really cute Minnie Mouse cupcakes with Oreos for ears. When Hyrum got his cupcake, he wanted the Oreos, but not the ones on the cupcake. He asked for “clean Oreos.” Thankfully, my friend was understanding and had some extras to get for him. Other things he likes: clean eggs (meaning nothing but egg), clean cheese (like he doesn’t want the cheese that’s part of a casserole at dinner, just plain cheese), and clean M&Ms (from another friend’s birthday cake). Talk about a picky eater!
Hyrum has said some funny things lately- I love that he is getting a much better grasp of the English language! Here are some of my favorites: When Cora sneezed on him, Hyrum whined to me, “Cora bless you’d on me!”
When we were playing downstairs one morning, Hyrum told me, “I need my slippers for the icy cold. Just kidding!”
Ryan’s parents sent us some old pictures of Ryan from when he was on the swim team back in junior high (meaning Ryan’s wearing a Speedo). Hyrum saw the picture and told me matter-of-factly, “and this is a picture of when Daddy was naked.”
Hyrum has been kind of freaked out about any trips to the doctor since he had to get shots at his 3 year well-child appointment. For Cora’s nine month appointment, I warned him ahead of time that we would be going, but that it wouldn’t be for him. He then told me he didn’t like the doctor. I told him, “but the doctor helps you be healthy!” to which he replied, “no, the doctor helps me cry!”
We had a family home evening about prayer (again) to try to help Hyrum to stop saying the same memorized super-short prayer he always says (“Dear Heavenly Father, thankful for the food, name of Jesus Christ, Amen”). When it came time for the closing prayer, he wanted to say it. We prompted him after “thankful for the food” with “please help us to...” to which he added, “please help us to be thankful for the food, name of Jesus Christ, Amen.” I guess we need to keep working on it.
