I made turkey string cheese for Hyrum’s snack for preschool this month (this can be added to the list of crazy things I do for my kids):
To have some special time together before the baby came, I painted Cora’s nails for the first time. She loved it! And she wants painted nails all the time now:
My last pregnant picture (38 weeks):
Ryan has started a new favorite family home evening activity: hot dogs. He rolls them each up in a blanket very tightly, like a hot dog. They love it!
Hyrum finished basketball at the beginning of December. He did awesome! He would actually get in there and try to get the ball, and he was succesful many times. Sometimes he would try to make a shot and sometimes he would pass it. During practice, he actually made 2 baskets. His dribbling improved dramatically, because he practiced A LOT. He would even dribble all the time in the house, and we would have to make him stop dribbling so he would eat or go to preschool or do his treatment. Now that it’s over, he keeps asking me when basketball will start again. We are so glad that he is doing a sport he likes and that he actually does well in. I am also so proud of him and glad we kept with it. That first week we were seriously discussing letting him quit basketball. He was so far behind with his dribbling and he seemed to hate it. But now he knows, if he keeps trying and practicing, he can get better and even enjoy a new activity! That lesson is worth every long drive to practice I had to take with my very pregnant self
I grew this pumpkin! It’s the only one I got this year, and it didn’t get all the way orange until after Halloween, so we decided to use it for Thanksgiving instead, and made it into a turkey. His name was ‘Albuquerque’ after a song Hyrum learned in preschool:
Cora has started to try to get out of her naptimes lately. One day when I told her it was naptime she told me, “I need to go poop!” She’s a smart little thing, because the only thing I want for her to do more than nap is go potty on the toilet. So, she was able to stall for a bit. And she didn’t go potty.
Cora was asking when her basketball practice was, and I told her she wasn’t big enough to do it yet. Then I told her she could do whatever sport she wanted: soccer, basketball, softball, dance class… As soon as she heard dance class, she said “dance class! Dance class!” I could not have been a more proud momma at that time I am so excited for her to take dance class in the fall! She already mimics moves she sees on Angelina Ballerina, like arabesques, pirouettes, and walking around on her little tippy toes. It’s adorable.
Since Zane was born just a few days before Thanksgiving, my family was awesome enough to come to Tucson so we could celebrate it together. My mom and sister also made the whole meal too! And cleaned up! It was beautiful and delicious All we were lacking was my brother and his family.
Hyrum told me one day while he was looking at a book, “I’m reading these words in my head, so Jesus knows I can read it.”
Little Zane at one week old. Even at one week, he just seemed like such a perfect addition to our family. He really seems like a perfect piece to our family puzzle. He is such a good sleeper and eater, and just such a pleasant baby so far, that Ryan and I feel he lives up to the meaning of his name: gift from God.
We did our thankful tree again this year, and it was fun because Hyrum wrote a lot of his all on his own! He started getting really into writing this month, probably because they work on it at preschool. He’s figuring out how to spell words on his own, and it’s just so exciting to see him progress in his learning so much! Cora even “wrote” a couple.
I love this “Indian” hat Hyrum made at preschool:
