Ryan and I had the privilege of going to New York City just the two of us at the end of April this year! Our plane got in late at night, and we ended up taking the wrong train from the airport to the city, so we ended up at the Grand Central Terminal which was cool looking, and we were starving, so we got our first NYC hot dogs at a little shop there that happened to be opened. They were so good!
Then we took our only Uber of the whole trip because we were tired, it was late at night, and we had all of our luggage straight to our hotel. After a good night's rest we went to the Museum of Modern Art. There was so much beautiful and interesting art there:These were "clouds" made out of discarded stuffed animals:
Andy Warhol and pop art:Jackson Pollock:
The reason I really wanted to go to this art museum out of all of the options in NYC was to see the Starry Night by Van Gogh. It is one of my all time favorite paintings, ever since college. It was amazing to see it in person- the emotion of the art felt so emphasized, and it inspired me to want to paint:
There was also a room length Monet painting, and he's another of my favorite artists, so this was a cool one for me:
Right when we got there we saw a performance art piece going on. There were a couple of different singers dressed in otherworldly clothes singing?/yelling things. It felt a bit like we were on some different planet with the background and everything:
After the museum we got lunch and saw the 9/11 memorials, the bull of Wall Street, and the Statue of Liberty off in the distance at Battery Park:
Then we got dinner, got changed, and headed down to Times Square for our first Broadway show of the trip, &Juliet:
We loved &Juliet, and it ended up being our favorite show of the trip! We laughed a lot, Joey Fatone was surprisingly good in it, we danced to the songs, and it only bothered us a little that a few drunk people in the audience were singing along loudly and yelling to the actors.
It was fun to see Times Square at night too, after the show. We even saw a Korean girl group (LE SSERAFIM) filming a music video while we were there:
We tried some cannoli and cake from Carlos Bake Shop, which was only ok, but we wanted to try it because we used to watch Cake Boss together:
Every morning in NYC we went to the Best Bagel Shop for bagels. They were SO good, and I miss them! We tried the rainbow bagel one morning:
After bagels the second day, we went to check out Central Park. It was wonderful!
We saw Bethesda fountain and terrace (which the terrace's tiling is beautiful, and we loved stopping to hear a cellist and violinist playing there for a bit):
And lots of pretty views:
We saw the Plaza hotel:
The Louis Vuitton building:
Tiffany's:
And then we went up to the top of the Rock. The views were beautiful!
St. Patrick's Cathedral:
Lots of pretty flowers too:

We happened to walk by Ellen's Stardust diner, and we were hungry and there was no wait, so we headed in. It was a really fun experience! They have singers who are trying to get on Broadway who are the waiters, and they trade off performing the whole time. It was amazing! There was even some confetti thrown:

Then we were going to head back to Central Park since we had only seen a little of it in the morning, but we ended up stopping into the American Museum of Natural History to just sneak a peek of the dino bones from "Night at the Museum," and ended up getting in for free for their last hour! We did a quick tour of exhibits that can be seen in Night at the Museum, and then just looked at a bunch of cool stuff:

One time on the street near our hotel, there were just a bunch of sewing machines. Who knows why, though our hotel was in the Garment District, so perhaps some people needed to sew on the street for awhile:
That night we went to Six the Musical, which we bought tickets for that afternoon at the Tkts booth in Times Square. We ended up with second row seats for so cheap!! This one was more like a concert than a musical, but we enjoyed it:
The next morning we decided to walk the Brooklyn bridge:
Then we got a picture at the famous spot DUMBO:
I loved the view of NYC from the Brooklyn Promenade:
There were a lot of fun murals too:
We ended up at this yummy Thai restaurant in Brooklyn that had been named a top 10 spot by USA Today. It was good!

After we changed into nicer clothes for our Broadway show later that night, we decided to walk the High Line and try some delicious treats at Laduree:
The High Line was beautiful and so unique and so crowded:
We got off the High Line at Chelsea Market, where we got a variety of really delicious food. We got tacos, schwarma, and maybe my favorite thing I ate the whole trip- these Portuguese custard tarts:
Then we made our way to our last Broadway show of the trip- "Maybe Happy Ending," where we also got amazing tickets for cheap from TKTS that afternoon. This one was super cute!
The next morning, we headed back to Central Park before our flight out. We checked out Belvedere Castle:
There were lots of turtles in the water:
We also saw Strawberry Fields, The Mall and Literary Walk, the Shakespeare Garden, and the Obelisk:
We also got a few yummy treats in the Upper West Side, like cookies from Levain bakery, and pudding from Magnolia bakery:
We saw the outside of the Met, which was already prepping for the Met Ball that following Sunday:
We also went out to see the NYC temple, and here it is!
We didn't realize it was under construction, so we just saw scaffolding and this sign:
Then we headed to the airport to get home to our kiddos. We had the best time seeing so much cool stuff, and we loved our time together. Our favorite thing was seeing all those Broadway shows! We were so grateful to my parents for watching our kids for us so we could spend that special time together.
